Ayurvedic medicine is one of the most oldest healing systems in the world. It means science of life. Ayurveda has its origin in India. According to studies it is at least thousand years old.
The basic principle that underlines Ayurveda is that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit. Ayurveda focuses on promoting a good health rather than curing diseases. Ayurveda is a method to achieve perfect health. It removes the root cause and gives lasting relief. The treatment mainly comprises of administration of powders, tablets, decoctions, medicated oils etc extracted from medicinal herbs and plants.
There are mainly eight components for Ayurveda. They are: Kayachikitsa (general medicine), Kaumara-bhṛtya (treatment of children), Shalya tantra(surgical technique), Śālākya-tantra(the teeth, eye, nose, ear etc), Bhuta-vidya(pertaining to micro-organisms or spirits), Agada-tantra deals with antidotes to poison, Rasayana-tantra(anti aging), Vajikarana tantra deals with healthy and desired progeny.
Panchakarma is the essence of ayurvedic treatment in Kerala. According to ayurveda panchakarma is cleansing of the body. It mainly consists of five procedures. They are Vamana, Virechana, Nirooha, Nasya, and Anuvasana. Nirooha, Anuvasana and Uttaravasthi.
